Why the Toyota Corolla remains the world’s best selling car after 50 years

For 50 years now, the Toyota Corolla has been the favorite of many car lovers with its sleek design, performance, safety features, and affordable pricing. With worldwide sales of more than 1.3 million cars in 2015, the Toyota Corolla remains the world’s top-selling car. Though the Toyota Corolla is popular in many countries worldwide, it has performed exceptionally well in the US market with over 360,000 models sold in 2015 and has also done well in China and Japan.

So, what are the features of the Toyota Corolla that make it so popular?

  • Engine and design features
Despite a modest pricing, Toyota Corolla is not weak on features. The latest model is powered by a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine with a horsepower of 132. Standard design features include LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, Entune audio system, navigation apps, and an aerodynamic sporty look.
  • Fuel efficiency
All Toyota Corolla models are efficient on fuel consumption. The top-of-the-line Eco model gives an exceptional fuel efficiency of 35 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the highway. Other lesser models also provide a decent mileage of around 32 mpg in city traffic.
  • Long-lasting and safe
The Toyota Corolla is also one of the most long-lasting vehicles, with overall runs of more than 200,000 miles. In addition to its long life, the Toyota Corolla is known to be one of the safest vehicles to drive, with a 5-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2016. The latest safety features include 8 airbags in all models, enhanced stability, and control, and anti-lock braking with brake assist.
  • Affordable pricing
With a base price of under $20,000, the Toyota Corolla stands out in the compact sedan segment against the Honda Civic and Ford Focus. Along with its great pricing and low maintenance costs, the Toyota Corolla is also a sought-after car in the resale market.

With over 11 generations of cars since its launch in 1966, each generation has strengthened Toyota’s reputation as a dependable car manufacturer with a long-lasting relation with its worldwide customers.

I am using the same car for the past 10 years, and in my opinion, no other car can replace this.
